Description
This product is supplied loose by the ton – can be supplied in bulk bags.
Washed limestone grit sand (often graded around 0–4mm) is a course, angular aggregate that has been thoroughly rinsed to remove clay, silt.
Key Characteristics
-
- Particle Structure: Coarse, sharp, and angular grains that interlock tightly to provide high stability and compaction.
- Limestone Base: Made from crushed and graded limestone fines, meaning it holds less water than sandstone-based alternatives and helps prevent excess moisture retention.
- Washed Processing: Free from fine silt and clay coatings that can weaken cement bonds, as well as soluble salts that cause efflorescence (white staining) on paving.
Main Uses in the UK
-
- Concreting: Mixed with limestone gravel and cement to produce high-strength concrete mixes.
- Paving & Bedding: Used as a stable, free-draining laying course or bedding layer for patio flags, natural stone, and block paving.
- Screeding & Pipe Bedding: Used for floor screeds (when combined with cement) and as supportive pipe bedding in groundwork.
