Mission Grey Building Sand (often spelled Misson Sand) is a soft, fine-grained building sand quarried regionally in south Yorkshire.
Key Characteristics & Description

- Colour Change: Appears orange, red, or beige in its fresh/wet state, but cures and dries to a neutral grey colour once mixed and set in mortar.
- Texture & Size: Soft, fine texture with a typical grain size of 0–2 mm.
- Workability: Offers smooth consistency and high plasticity, making it easy to combine with cement and water.
Common Applications
- Bricklaying & Blockwork: Ideal for laying strong, workable mortar beds.
- Pointing & Repointing: Used for maintaining, restoring, and finishing brick joints.
- Rendering & Plastering: Suitable for internal/general wall rendering where a smooth finish is required.
